The InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland held a press conference to announce its opening. The 88-metre-deep hotel, built on the side of a cliff in a quarry, has been named one of the world’s top 10 architectural wonders along with Dubai’s Burj AI Arab Hotel.
The Shimao Group who has successfully built landmarks in more than 10 cities all over the world, decided to build a five-star hotel in the abandoned quarry of Sheshan Mountain in 2006. The world’s lowest altitude hotel has attracted much attention and has been given the nickname “Deep Chasm Hotel”.
12 years in design and construction, the deep chasm hotel, which is the lowest altitude hotel in the world, endured many technical challenges.
Due to the complexity of the project CHINT were the only company to step up to the mark to provide technology and innovation for a safe and reliable main switchboard, capable of working at low altitudes.
The Shimao Group not only implements the highest standard requirements on all aspects of construction, but also has very strict quality control of its partners. As the power distribution supplier for the hotel, CHINT Electric participated in the construction of this special building with a full set of low-voltage power distribution equipment.
As the equipment is located in a unique environment well below sea level, the requirement for reliability and security of operation is very high.

After much investment CHINT has improved the anticorrosive performance of its LV equipment by more than 50% by means of many technically innovative designs and simulation analysis testing.
CHINT also optimized the structure of the design to ensure the equipment has a level 9 seismic capacity.
