CHINT Shield is pleased to announce the promotion of Kelvin Drinkwater to Managing Director, following just over 12 months of outstanding impact as Head of Sales and Commercial. His appointment recognises a period of significant commercial progress, team growth and strategic development across the business.

Kelvin made a statement upon accepting the promotion:

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Haibin Zheng, our former Managing Director and now Chief Executive Officer, for giving me this opportunity and for placing his trust in my ideas for the business and its leadership direction when I first joined CHINT Shield over a year ago as Head of Sales and Commercial. Without Haibin’s confidence and support over the past year, none of this would have been possible.”

Kelvin joined CHINT Shield in early 2025 and quickly made his mark. In a relatively short time, he has helped drive measurable growth, strengthen customer relationships and support the company’s wider direction in the UK low-voltage electrical market. His promotion is a clear reflection of the contribution he has made and the confidence the business has in his leadership.

A year of strong commercial growth

Over the past 12 months, CHINT Shield has achieved impressive progress under Kelvin’s commercial leadership. The business recorded more than 20% growth in its customer base across the channel, along with more than 20% growth in inbound daily orders. Year-to-date sales growth has also continued to move in the right direction, highlighting the strength of the commercial strategy and the momentum now building across the business.

This performance has not happened by chance. It has been supported by a focused approach to sales, customer development and internal capability, all of which are essential for long-term success in the electrical distribution and low-voltage sector.

Building a stronger sales team

A key part of Kelvin’s impact has been the development of the CHINT Shield sales structure. During his first year, the business expanded its team with the recruitment of five new Key Account Managers, one new National Business Development Manager and additional leadership support for internal sales.

This investment in people reflects CHINT Shield’s commitment to providing excellent service, stronger customer support and a more responsive commercial operation. For a UK electrical manufacturing and distribution business, having the right team in place is critical to delivering growth and maintaining high standards.

Embracing change and shaping the future

Kelvin has played an important role in guiding CHINT Shield through a period of change and progress. His own approach, summed up in the phrase:

Embrace The Change – Manage The Future

This phrase reflects both his leadership style and the direction of the business.

He has also shown clear appreciation for the team around him, thanking colleagues for their support and belief in the journey so far. That collaborative mindset has helped create the conditions for progress, while reinforcing a culture built on trust, ambition and shared purpose.

Strengthening CHINT Shield’s industry position

Alongside commercial growth, CHINT Shield has also taken important steps to strengthen its position within the UK electrical industry. Over the past year, the business joined the Electrical Distributors’ Association, BEAMA and the ECA, underlining its commitment to industry engagement, professional standards and sector-wide collaboration.

These memberships are important markers of CHINT Shield’s ambition and its long-term role in the UK low-voltage electrical equipment market. They also support the company’s ongoing focus on quality, innovation and customer confidence.

A well-earned promotion

Kelvin’s move from Head of Sales and Commercial to Managing Director is a well-earned recognition of the difference he has made in just over a year. It also reflects the trust placed in him by Haibin Zheng, former Managing Director and now Chief Executive Officer, who gave Kelvin the opportunity to shape the business and its leadership direction from the outset.

This promotion signals more than an internal milestone. It reflects a business that is growing, adapting and investing in leadership that can support its next phase of development. For CHINT Shield, it marks an important moment in the company’s continued evolution.

Looking ahead

With Kelvin now leading CHINT Shield as Managing Director, the business is well positioned to build on the progress made over the past 12 months. The foundations are stronger, the team is growing and the commercial outlook remains positive.

As CHINT Shield continues to develop its role in the UK low-voltage electrical sector, Kelvin’s leadership will be central to driving future growth, supporting customers and shaping the next stage of the company’s journey.
