Meet Mike Careless, one of our Key Account Managers. He’s been instrumental in building trusted relationships and driving steady growth across the Midlands region in the UK. We had a conversation with him to learn what drives him, how he approaches his job role and what he thinks about the future of the electrical and energy industry:
What is your role at CHINT Shield and what does a typical day look like for you?
I’m a Key Account Manager covering post code areas B, CV, DE, DY, LE, NG, ST, SY, TF, WR, WS and WV. My typical day involves calling on wholesalers and contractors in these areas.
In addition I also:
- Discuss CHINT to raise the company profile and grow confidence in the brand
- Make customers aware of our special offers and product ranges
- Discuss and put plans together to help sell CHINT Shield products to benefit all parties
We’re not just box shifters, we want to grow and work alongside our stocking partners.
What’s one thing you’ve learned since joining CHINT Shield?
It would have to be the size of the company.
We manufacture 3.2 million MCB poles per day globally, which is fully automated, and that we are one of the world’s largest manufacturer’s of circuit protection. Some of the company statistics are phenomenal!
What would you say to someone who had doubts about using CHINT Shield?
Take some time to look at CHINT Global, watch some of the videos online and follow them on LinkedIn. See the projects that we have been involved with and products we’ve supplied. CHINT is practically protecting the electrical infrastructure of Sharm EL Sheikh , a city in Egypt.
What surprised you the most about working at CHINT Shield?
The can do attitude and the family feel. We’re a small team and all need each other’s help to grow the business. We all support each other to deliver the companies goals.
What excites you the most about the future of electrical innovation and sustainable energy?
Being part of a company that wants to be the market leader in our field. The company philosophy says it perfectly:

What’s one trend in the industry that you are watching closely ?
I was at an EDA forum recently, and the common trend from the manufacturing and wholesaling side was that margins are being eroded. It is concerning that the whole trade is evolving into one where switch selling is becoming a thing of the past. Product reliability, features and benefits, suitability, product testing are not being considered enough. We are in a trade where it is a race to the bottom on price. The majority of products we sell are life protecting devices, built of a high quality, fully tested and certified. It is concerning that there are products available that are so cheap to buy, that it is questionable as to whether or not they would actually work.
